TOPPING THE HOT 100

I may be the last birder in the Willamette Valley to see my first Black-headed Grosbeak of the year. But this guy (seemingly a mature male in at least his second spring migration) spent spoime time posing and packing it away on a visible feeder. I can only hope a pair will nest nearby, but we lack a large stream and big cottonwoods, so maybe not.

I haven’t yet seen BHG’s fancy cousin, the Lazuli Bunting. Both are members of the globalized cardinal family. The other likely “grosbeak” in these parts is the evening and they have gross beaks but are NOT cardinalized. They are the world’s largest finch species. Later I will post more BHG pics, so don’t be grosed out.

THe BHG has a loud voice and will be soundin g like a sore-throated robin, from high in a tree.
What about top 100 stuff? This guiy is my 100th species for the month of April!
