When this male hummer turned his head and neck just so, the gorget flashed purple in the morning sun that had found a small window through the gray clouds.
A brief drive through Ankeny NWR showed all the usual dabblers and a few lingering diving ducks. Rain so land-birding was not very rich or rewarding. Thousands of swallows in the air there, majority were Cliff Swallows who will nest under every bridge and barn roof (where allowed). Also many V-G Swallows over the water.One violet-green among the cliffies.

The only eagle was in a treetop in Lane County, being pestered by a Crow. Three nesting Osprey seen–one at Wheatland Ferry east landing, two on platforms along South Fork of the Umpqua River in Douglas County. One of those on the railroad bridge at Winchester, just west of I-5’s river bridge. Wheatland Osprey:
Aso at Wheatland were two floating bits of white flotsam on the river, turned out to be male Common Mergansers:
