Activity outside our cabion at Green Springs Inn.
Dawn drumming by male Red-breasted Sapsucker. His chosen sounding board is one of the signs with a nearby cabin’s name on it. The sapsucker has already chiseled off the right-hand end of the sign. Further damage is to be expected during the annual drum season.
Two Steller’s Jays building a nest on the oiutside roof beam of the firewood shed.
Fly-by of three Band-tailed PigeonS.
Birds seen and heard around Hyatt Lake and Howard Prairie include: Osprey, Williamson’s Sapsucker, Western Tanager, Cassin’s Vireo, Dusky Flycatcher, Chipping Sparrow, Mountain Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, red-tail. Last evening two Wild Turkeys crossed the highway just south of Howard Prairie lake. Mountain Quail call persistently around Green Springs Inn cabins. Unseen naturally.
NESTING SEASON
At the wildlife viewing pull-out along the western shore of Hyatt Lake a pair of White-headed Woodpeckers are nesting in a sawed-off stump. GGO female of her nest. Steller’s Jays nest-building. Birds are being nestiferous.

The jays used natural materials, but apparently, also plastic.
DRUMMING IS REQUIRED…IF YOU ARE A SAPSUCKER
Damage to the drum just part of natrual process. Talk about being a chiseler…

Cal Condors vs. avian flu–vaxx may help. Don’t tell the anti-vaxxers weho might sue to stop condoir vaccination.
