After 1PM today, APRIL 19, a third Dunlin was noted by our Motus Tower at Ankeny NWR Nature Center. There was a first record last fall, then a second Dunlin passed on the 15th. That bird has reached British Columbia. This is a third individual Dunlin wearing a transmitter. It, like Dunlin #2, was tagged in California. This one in late November of last year. It was tagged by Rodd Kelsey of Nature Conservancy at a location south of Colusa, east of I-5. That is in the Sacramento Valley, north of the city of Sacramento.
The Dunlin breeding range is mostly along the shoreline of the Arctic Ocean, so this bird has some miles to cover. Likely moving with a flock.
