OUR LITTLE LIVELY NEIGHBORS

Three great shots from Albert Ryckman’s home in Linn County…the chestnut-backed is not a regular customer there. A bonus for looking out the window on a rainy day:

The black-capped is a bit bigger than the chestnut-backed, half an inch longer… 5/100ths of an ounce heftier! Bushtits, of course, are the smallest non-hummer in Oregon. A bushtit is about 4/100ths of an ounce heavier than an adult Anna’s, our biggest local hummer here in western Oregon. The montane Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest breeding species in North America and is an annual migrant of over a thousand miles!
