WINTER PANDEMIC GOES FOR BAND-TAILS

Click here for info on the disease cursing our large native pigeon. Here are some pictures from the good old days when the locals would invade our Ashland garden and clear out all the bird food. The ones with no white neck band are first-year birds in immature plumage in the fall. Click on any image for full-screen:

In Ashland they usually arrived in late April, were occasional during nesting season, then the whole tribe gathered before fall migration.

  1. We have band tailed pigeons coming every year in the spring but not in large numbers like previously. You’re ight about them cleaning out the black oiled sunflower seeds.
