GARDEN HAWK AND BOXING DAY BIRDS

The Richmond District red-tail. Bill Madison writes of this photo from his garden: “Here’s another picture, of the hawk perched on our water feature, getting a drink.” Running water is appreciated by many birds of all sizes

My guess on the red-tail, which is an adult bird, it’s half of a mated pair getting ready to nest somewhere nearby. In a tall tree, or a rooftop, maybe in Golden Gate Park (certainly that is where they will hunt for most meals).  They eat small mammals and will dine on fresh road kill–squirrel pizza, dead duck etc.

SALEM BIRDS

The quail at Riverfront Park this morning was a new bird for this month, and a surprise for this birder. The two miniature geese are the only Cacklers there.

RIVERFRONT GALLERY…About that squirrel…”the tail, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind…the tail is blowin’ in the wind.” Dylan cudda written a song about that.
