SQUIRRELLY NUTSO–IT’S WALNUT SEASON

Even in New York they understand the squirrel mentality:

Our squirrels are daily gathering some of the hundreds of black walnuts that have fallen into our back garden. I have seen some being buried, just as the jays hide their peanuts. Of course, the squirrels avail themselves of easier dining…on bird food trays:

The feline predator is an uninvited neighbor. Comes daily. Ad do the corvids and turkeys and finches and juncos. The latter seem to be our most numerous species now, or at least as common as the American Goldfinches.
At our house we talk turkey, sometimes even TO the turkeys:

I saw a peacock near our house today. There is more than one in our neighborhood. They have collected folklore. “They are somebody’s pets.” “Somebody dumped them here.” “They kill the young turkeys.” “They are loud and mean.” They are sneaky, not a myth:

Bird on metal railing is a yellow-rump. Bathing bird is House Finch. Bird flapping is bluebird, like the outta focus bird on pole base. Sparrow in bush is juvie white-crown.
