FALL FIRST–OCT. 16

Our first migrant Zonotrichia seen today: Golden-crowned Sparrow. The last sightings in our garden were last April and I have never seen them here earlier than this. Golden-crowns will over-winter, I expect. The white-crowned sightings here in past years were in September so I may not see one here until spring as there were none last month.

Meanwhile our roses insist on continued blooming, as do the cyclamen in shady spots. Finally the gum tree has turned colors and the neighbor’s walnut is bombarding us with nuts. Late October?

In Hawaii a plant thought gone, is still here. Click on story but you won’t learn where it is.
