This time of year some of the first Arctic migrants begin appearing in Oregon and California. Wildlife photographer, Peter Thiemann, has been to the Crescent City area. It’s a rich region for coastal birding Here is Peter’s reward, which he kindly shares with us–good looks at Ruddy Turnstone and Pacific Loon–all still in breeding plumage. A treat for us “southerners” who live more than a thousand miles south of their usual breeding range.
Soon these early arrivals will begin to change into their drab wintering gowns. They won’t molt back into breeding finery for months.
