We are seeing many young birds following adults to our feeders. First were the House Finchlets that arrived last month. Now: Lesser Goldfinch, crows, starlings. The young crow this morning exercised his loud cawing whine–“feed me, feed me”.
This evening a quartet of White-breasted Nuthatches showed up on one of our suet blocks, and its surroundings. Two, maybe three, of them were newly fledged from the nuthatchery, and they acted nutty. Swooping and diving (swallow imitations), and then one landed on our roof–not a typical nuthatch placement.
