MAY FINALS

There was a Green Heron in Clark Creek Park this morning. It appeared to be carrying nesting material. Nearby a flicker was inside the nest hole in a dead cottonwood.

The Lesser Goldfinch is a daily visitor. One day two pairs had a territorial that led to aerial combat. No evidence of injuries or use of drones.

The “horned” finch above is a molting juvie. Unable to reach his own crown, the waxy sheath of the new feathers must gradually wear off. I guess his mom won’t comb his hair. You’d never see a young crow out in public like that!
