The turkey gang at 8AM, then a treetop sharpie just three blocks away, then a daring downy on the suet a few feet from the car window, then the bustling bunch of Bushtits. A Wednesday–warm, wide sky, wings waving.
The local flicker male was giving out his courtship call repeatedly. In the nearby park the WB Nuthatches were vocal as well.
The turkeys ate all the sunflower chips in front of the house, took twenty minutes. They grabbed some saladry–fresh grass. Then they strutted down onto our lawn for a belly-full nap. While filling their bellies they bullied the littler birds. Chased a hungry Mourning Dove, three hens charged a bold scrub-jay, repeatedly drove off daring juncos or finches. The wise small birds fed in the back garden. It is more enclosed and so the turkeys do not go there. Squirrels don’t dare the turkeys either–back garden.
