Click here for story of Snowy Owl on D.C. monuments. It is so neighborly of a Canadian to come down and help us out…beyond rats he will take larger prey nsuch as housecats on thge loose and squirrels. The most muscular and heaviest North American owl, snowy must be able to deal with Arctic hare, not a tiny nor frail critter.
I have seen Snowy Owls only here on the Pacific Slope. Sequim, Fern Ridge near Eugene, and way south…along the bayshore near Benicia, viewed from a boat. My personal best views were the owl wintering in the suburbs of Sequim, seen one March evening in 2013 while I was leading a group of birders–all thrilled to see him on a gazebo roof…not quite as good as Archimedes or the Library of Congress.
