When I stepped outside to deliver sunflower seeds to the feeders around 8AM, it was quiet. Then I looked up into a neighbor’s bare birch–there perched a Sharpie. No wonder sparrows and finches were in hiding or dining at another venue. Undeterred the jays showed up as soon as the peanuts hit the pavement.

Later, after the final mornIng showers there was blue sky and mid-day sunshine and the bushes and trees were alive with feeding birds, Bushtit flocks, gangs of juncos, a calling White-breasted Nuthatch, House Finches. The sharpie had so traumatized the siskins I saw only a few all day long. Tomorrow?
