BIRDING FROM ABOVE

An early afternoon stop at Salem Riverfront Park resulted in my walking onto the arched bridge over Willamette Slough. From there I looked down on several birds, not a usual experience for a mammal less than ten feet tall. Most interesting was to stand directly over a Green Heron fishing along the edge of one fishy pool. Only the crows were higher in elevation than I was.

The surface of the quiet pools roiled with fish activity…until this heron approached then the fish went into deeper water and the pool’s surface reflected sunlight like a placid pool is supposed to.

NOTHING BETTER THAN A REFRESHING BATH IN THE BRIGHT SUN
