WHERE THE COMMON CRANE IS UNCOMMON

Cranes nesting once more in Ireland after 300 year absence.

We went to see wintering cranes in Champagne when we got the chance. In recent decades cranes have resumed nesting in England and become year-round residents.

Here in the U.S. the Sandhill Crane population seems stables and it is the most abundant crane species on earth. The Whooping Crane has been carefully brought back from the brink of extinction. The International Crane Foundation is working to save several endangered crane species.
