A finch smuggler from Guyana has been busted. He was trying to bring Guyanese finches into New York…illegally…to win bird song contests…that people apparently bet on!?!?!?!?!?
This is not the first time this has happened, not even the mere second. Hair rollers?? Duh.
So what kind of finch were they? Many finches are great singers.
A wikipedia listing shows eleven species of finch in Guyana, inc. 2 siskins and 9 euphonia. “Euphonia” says something about their song(s). The genus name is of Greek origin and refers to the birds’ pleasing song, meaning “sweet-voiced”.
