The Great Blue Heronry is now back in operation near I-5 Exit 263. That is in Marion County north of Salem. The bare deciduous trees on the east side of the freeway hold at least fifteen nests from last season. Mid-afternoon today there were some adults standing in, one on each of several nests. This heronry is southeast of the intersection, just off the road. It is best seen from northbound and exit lanes. I would estimate the nests and grove of trees are about 150 yards south of the interchange bridge. I often see the adults hunting in nearby grass fields. Those trees will be bare for a few more weeks, giving visible access to the activities there.
