I birded Hagg Lake and then Wapato Lake today with Roshana Shockley. Nothing unusual but plenty of waterfowl, large and small. Wapato is a unit of the Tualatin River NWR and just southeast of Gaston.
At Hagg Lake most of the water birds were at the shallow end, including one Common Loon, one Eared Grebe, most of the ducks and cormorant. At Wapato we saw swans roll over in the water as they washed their feathers. They would roll head first and briefly only their white belly and black legs would be above water. Also at Wapato were at least three pairs of Wood Ducks, the males in their sporty breeding plumage.
