Juncos in the bird bath
Can be four at once
Propellor wings hurling water
Feathers flinging, fountain forming
Droplets’ curved skin reflecting
Peaked January sunshine
Shining bright platinum purity.
The camera sees what eyes miss
Wet explosions of aqueous fireworks
Bright brief sparkling slashes
Then stillness.
Satisfied juncos jump off
The quiet surface of the water
Refuses to smile.
