Our Malheur Field Station birding trip inevitably found some of the more common mammals of Harney County. Nuttall’s Cottontails were always about the field station, but we never saw a single jackrabbit leading to our surmise that their population had crashed. That’s not good news for this guy, Golden Eagle in tree at milepost 50 on Hwy 205 north of Frenchglen:
We did see coyote, and the large ungulates:
