California has become the first state to ban all fur trapping. Trapping of beaver was one of the earliest businesses as white men invaded the western U.S. Early 19th Century Russian efforts in California were centered on fur trapping–mostly ocean mammals like otter and fur seal.
Here in Oregon over fifteen species can be legally trapped. Species that may not be trapped include: bats, chipmunks, ringtail, fisher, wolverine, kit fox, sea otter and all other sea mammals. For details on season and getting a license, click here.
