BILL THOMPSON OF BIRDER’S DIGEST

If you attend many bird festivals you may have heard William Thompson III give a speech.  He is the editor of Birder’s Digest and has been a big presence in the birding world.  Very big: way over six feet tall, large around, an operatic baritone voice, great sense of humor and depth of experience in things birdy that is thrilling to see on display.  I once got to watch him perform, a sort of evening chorus, at Winter Wings Festival in Klamath Falls a few years* back.  Carpe diem, folks.  I now learn that Bill is likely dying of cancer.
Click here for touching blog about cold, death and renewed life from his former wife, Julie Zickefoose, an artist and writer equal to Bill in her ability to reach the core of our lives.

Julie Zickefoose will be keynoting at Winter Wings later this month, on February 17th.

*Sometimes the hand is closely in touch with the heart, by-passing the attempt of the brain to control our out-put  When I first typed this word, it came out “tears.”  Very close to the heart of this matter.
