A British study draws the direct connection between climate change, social unrest, political violence and millions running for their lives across borders. So to have safe borders, we need a safer planet, not one driven to extinctions by the thousands. It should be self-evident that not many people relish being emigrants.
I am afraid I have encountered two recent quotes are are relevant and frightening:
“Our species, it seems, is intelligent enough to understand the damage it is causing to the world in which we also evolved, but incapable of co-operating to protect the resources on which we all depend.” In review of book on invertebrates in TLS of Jan. 11, 2019, by Anne Magurran
CounterPunch, from a 01/03/19 article by John Davis titled Burn Lands (his area is south Calif): “Yet as the year turns, and we enter another millionth sliver of geologic time, it is apparent that although we humans are often individually long-lived, as a species we will die young. What remains is to negotiate the precise terms of our extinction.”
