The count was on January 4th and the weather was on our side.
That wonderful oak above is at Miller Woods.
The ratio of male: female kestrels was 2:1. Here is one of the six males we saw:
As a former milk goat farmer, I can’t resist them…even when they won’t look at me. The little mites in the tree tops were our only flock of siskins on the day. The Golden-crowned Sparrows was feeding on freeze-dried blackberries.
