“CHEEKY” AND OTHER GARDEN BIRDS

Here is Cheeky, the white-cheeked junco:

Judging from his very dark black crown he is an adult male.
Auddie the audacious warbler (“Auddie” being short for Audubon’s Warbler):

Mourning Dove line-up at Wennerberg Park…Red-breasted Sapsucker…towhee male gives me the red eye.

Fungus…sunset…

FUNGIMG_7835IMG_7840DEMOLITION: It was hard for me not to wish bad things to happen to the tractor driver…but he was certainly ordered by McMinnville Water and Light to remove all the brush and ground cover from their forested land…both on the hilltop overlooking Joe Dancer Park and just north of the park boundary (see sharp demarcation line below) along the South Yamhill River.  This is destructive in so many ways: inviting heavy erosion during what we hope will be a rainy season…destroying cover and breeding habitat for sparrows, Bewick’s Wren and chipmunks…forcing rats out of their once-protected burrows to move into nearby housing areas to find cover and food.  Will they now copy the logging industry and spray with agent orange?jdp-1jdp-2jdp-3I can only suspect the goal was discourage homeless humans from camping in the brush…so to punish our unfortunate brethren we scour the earth…carrying on a human human tradition going back to the times before the Romans destroyed Carthage.
