Merlin, the medieval companion of King Arthur, may have been a magician, or simply an alchemist. He may have been a myth. today;s Merlin is real flesh and energy. Merlin the modern bird is a magician simply by virtue of sharp eyes, sharp talons and almost instantaneous acceleration when it’s time to move. This morning this Merlin was perched on top of the tallest dead tree along the river at Joe Dancer Park. Needless to say there were no smaller birds to found anywhere at that time. Merlins are very quick at catching their smaller avian neighbors and those neighbors know it.
