The octopus lives more than 9000 feet below the surface and has been found more than 20,000 feet below the surface. They are distributed worldwide in ocean depths. It is a predator. It is also a shell-less mollusc, distant cousin to your garden snail or slug. Length can vary from eight inches up to five feet. This one may have been about two feet long.
The two flaps on the head are fins, not ears. The legs also enable the octopus to crawl along the floor.
Young are born from eggs and receive no parenting once hatched.
