A long-time friend is a scientist who lives near San Diego.  He just sent me this email:     “Ocean at 78 degrees. Warmest ever recorded at SIO [Scripps Institution of Oceanography] in 100 years for any date. Saw four trigger fish crunching muscles on the chain of the quarter mile buoy.”

My friend tells me the triggerfish are invaders from the south, as ever tropical species follow warm waters north.  The same thing happened during the severe El Nino heat bubble in 2013-4 which brought many tropical species as far north as Oregon’s coast.

Scripps’ website has summary of paper positing that weather and health disasters will finally push world powers to face up to the challenges of climate change.
