The dog and I were walking around Carlton’s Wennerberg Park this morning.  I looked up to see a Green Heron flying above us.  It came out of a willow thicket along the North Yamhill “River” at the southeast corner of the park.  It then landed and proceeded to eye the dog as if it might have a nest in the willows.  It’s the first time I’ve seen a Green Heron in hundreds of visits to this park though I have seen them at Yamhill a few miles north.GH IN AIRGH IN AIR2GH-LIM1GH-LIM2The park was busy with bird life.  Robins worming across the lawns.  Barn Swallows flying sorties above the ball fields. A single swift jetting across the treetops.  Black-headed Grosbeaks sitting in those same treetops, singing their morning chorale.  Cedar Waxwings flycatching.  A couple of flycatchers, wood-pewees, down by the river flitting through the willows.  Savanna Sparrows moving from berry thicket to grass field and back again.  BHG-WENNBHG-WENN2Male grosbeak on top of the world, and singing about it.BHG-WENN3CW-WENNCW-WENN2CW-WENN3Waxwing above, male Lesser Goldfinch below:lego-wennIn our McMinnville garden this morning–a Chestnut-backed Chickadee, a bird I do not expect during breeding season.  The only months when I have NOT see this bird here are May and July…are those the months for clutch #1 and then clutch #2…they go into the forest to raise young?CBCH THRU WINDW
