GETTING THERE IS HALF…

Mid-way on our way to Summer Lake, June 2, our Klamath Bird Observatory expedition stopped for picnic lunch at Collier State Park along the beauteous Williamson River.  We did not do any organized birding but at least one birder founda Dipper in Spring Creek.  We saw two adult Red-breasted Sapsuckers feeding young in a nest hole just west of the entrance to the men’s toilet and the drinking fountain.  This in the day use portion of the park.  As we left we saw a Mountain Chickadee carry food to the nest hole in the right hand pillar holding up the large wooden sign for the park.  Years ago I saw that hole being drilled by a White-headed Woodpecker.  This species was noted by part of our party on their homebound trip several days later  Numerous Tree Swallows were also coming and going from nest holes in the park.RBS-COLLIER
