Today I led a second San Francisco natural history field trip for Golden Gate Audubon.  No rain. Some sunshine. In the next couple of days I will post bird checklists, but herewith some highlights from today:ALHU BRITEYEThis male Allen’s Hummingbird one of several-each seemingly the most beautiful.ALHU BRITEYE2BEST MAMMAL:  Botta’s pocket gopherB-P-G UPBEST SURPRISE: Merlin overlooking El Polin in Presidio:MERL-UPBEST SOLO VOCALIST: Pacific Wren at North Lake, Golden Gate Park:PW VOICE

  1. Harry, Be sure to check out the Broad-billed Hummingbird in a garden seen from 36th Ave about 50 yds north of Geary. You can check the bird from the little private parking lot. Look east to the 3rd yard and watch the feeder hanging from the tree with the white flowers. It also has been reported roosting in the olive tree near the piece of sheet metal that’s hanging from a redwood. Good luck, Dan Murphy
