My birding friend, Melanie Byers-Jones took this picture in her garden here in Yamhill County.  Cooper’s Hawk with a fresh kill.  The victim’s beak and tail and orange feathers at the murder scene indicate it was once a living robin.  The Coop–as it generally does–carried its prey off to eat in a more private location.  As first, Melanie was afraid her towhee had been killed but the image proves otherwise.  Perhaps, the towhee simply understands it is time to be very secretive.COOP WITH KILL
