THE RAIN SHALL REIGN

Forecast is for this to be our longest lasting rain of the new rainy season…we are well behind average for October.  Half an inch while the monthly average here is over 3 inches.  The light drizzle in late morning did not dampen the bird activity completely.  Headline: Wet Weather Not a Wet Blanket.

Today the waxwings were high in a forty-foot ash tree along the riverbank at Joe Dancer.  They were eating the flat seeds that hang in clusters.  Robins were participating in the feast, as well.  The Lincoln’s Sparrow flushed from the a dense weed patch as we walked by, then flew to nearest bushes, gave us a quick stare and  vanished.  Typical  A Song Sparrow will often perch in partially clear view and eye one with some curiosity or daring.  Not so, his little cousin.  With Lincs–now you see him, now you can’t

Meanwhile, in our garden nary a goldfinch.  For now: juncos rule.
