TUALATIN TIME

Rob Schulman and I birded the Tualatin River NWR this afternoon.  Blue skies, balmy weather, puffy clouds, migrants foraging in the trees, geese honking in their own aerial traffic jams.  A Peregrine sped across the marsh, heading into the future. I cannot write “raced” about that bird, because nobody could compete with a Peregrine on the wing.  Many swallows, at east one swift.  A swirling flock of American Goldfinches came past the visitors center.  The waxwings were mostly along the river along with the myrtle warblers.

Tim Blount was the volunteer on duty. He warned us there were no shorebirds about today.  Tim’s fine new book on the Birds of the Pacific Northwest is out now. Later we ran into Dr. Thomas Love.  His group has seen a Black Phoebe just upstream from the river overlook platform.  No eagles while we were there. Hundreds of geese already.CW-TU4WC IN FITRIMG_8826American Goldfinches at rest and in the air.AMGO AIRBORN
