It was calm, sunny, fresh-air morning along the river in Joe Dancer Park this morning. Plenty of bees and birds, or birds and bees. The best performance wad turned in by this dazed fledgling Bewick’s Wren. What is that bright light and what am I doing out here on this log?YBW-1YBW-2YBW-3The young and the scruffy.YBW-5YBW-6
Later we came across a waxwing in the sun, and wood-pewee, ditto.CEWA LIGHTWPW-JDWPW-JD2
In the afternoon we were in south Salem along Skyline Road. There a small meadow full of Queen Anne’s lace was also full of Violet-green Swallows. I tried for some action shots as the birds zipped back and forth the length of the field. I focused the camera in front of me then watched the flying birds, trying to time my shutter button pushing to coincide when I estimated they would fly through my camera’s field of focus. Here’s what I got besides dozens of birdless frames:vg fly1vgflyvgfly2vgfly3vgfly4On a wire across the street from the field were the young lined up, waiting for parents to deliver the goods. Bugs for late lunch, yum.
