Here we have baked jay as he perches in hot mid-day sun on a shingle roof, cooking the lice out of his feathers.
The music of the Swainson’s Thrush was all around all day long…but the birds hid in the shade where they became part of the shadows…a good look is hard to find.

It seems about 95% of the feral foxgloves at Silver Falls are purplish, few are white.
You really have to look up to a mature Douglas fir. This one;s at least eighty years old. No needles until you get at least fifty feet above the earth.
