It was the second field trip for our McMinnville Parks birding class.  This time we began at Rotary Park, a riparian and hillside woodland of second growth trees on the north edge of town.  There are plenty of non-native plants in these woods: apple, cherry, birch.  And there are relict populations of garden plants from ivy to blue bells (now blooming).  And before the rain began there was a lot of birdsong. Loudest of all were the filckers.  Several robins were making noise as were the pair of Steller’s Jays.

From there we went to Wennerberg Park where the rain refused to follow us.  There we found Orange-crowned Warblers in a gleaner flock that included Buishtits, chickadees, kinglets, nuthatches and a creeper.The little guys were playing hard to get.  Here the nether regions of an Orange-crowned Warbler.  Below that most of a White-breasted Nuthatch visible.Blooming currant above, shelf fungus below–both at Rotary Park.
