In the past three days I have seen swifts on the move.  On Putah Creek in Solano County it was White-throated Swifts.  Along the Klamath River at the Collier Rest Stop in Siskiyou County it was Vaux’s Swifts.  Then this morning at the Umpqua River Bridge in north Myrtle Creek, and late in the day at Wennerberg Park in Carlton: more Vaux’s.

Here’s a terriorially fixated male towhee in Myrtle Creek.  Handsome despite his frenzied vocal defense of an ordinary coyote bush.ST ALOOKIN (1280x960) ST-SINGS (1280x960)Blow this picture up and you will see many aerial mites–a mix of Cliff Swallows and Vaux’s Swifts at Myrtle Creeks old highway bridge. When this Bald Eagle floated past her was chased hafl-heatedly by one of the Osprey.  The eagle was not really approaching the nest andf the Osprey had no fish to steal, so eagle was movin’ on anyway…BE OVER1 (1280x960) BE OVER2 (1280x960) OSP OVER1 (1280x960) OSP OVER2 (1280x960)
