Klamath Bird Observatory [KBO] is part of an hemispheric network of science groups studying the neo-tropical migrants who co]e and go each year. Feeling the fall-out from years of federal cutbacks on science and conservation, KBO is seeking support from a wider population of birders and conservation supporters. This is a chance to do something the Congress won’t do for you…and help the birds. If we know enough we may be able to help more species survive climate change.

The Calliope Hummingbird is North America’s smallest avian package…yet it migrates sometimes up to 2000 miles twice annually. From mountains in western Canada to mountains in Mexico. I took these photos in the Siskiyous here in southern Oregon. The more we know about the Calliope’s life and habitat needs, the more likely it is that we can find ways to aid its survival as climate and flora change.
