The rest of these images are from a recent trip to Klamath and the Tule Basin.Bonaparte 1Bonaparte’s Gulls. Named for nephew of Napoleon, Charles Lucien Bonaparte who spent a very short time in America, 1823-26, but was an active colelctor while here. Later he poured over collections in European museums finding several more new American species deposited there. Species he first described and named include: Cooper’s Hawk, Swainson’s Hawk, Sage Grouse, Say’s Phoebe (collected by Thomas Say), Brown Creeper, Varied Bunting, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Scott’s Oriole, Pyrrhuloxia and Semipalmated Plover.
