DUCKS GET SPOOKED

It was Halloween so it makes sense the ducks on Billings’ Ranch Pond would get spooked. Flocks of them took to the air, circling over Bear Creek and Ashland Pond. I looked over the fence and there were two creatures disguised as humans, very scary if you’re a hunted waterfowl. Only two ducks actually sought refuge on Ashland Pond, a Wigeon and a Wood Duck, both males.

Chinook haunted by the need to get upstream to spawn…these two were on Ashland Creek between pond and sewage plant. It’s an area where habitat restoration has been done to enhance the salmon’s use of the stream.
