The ibis population at Malheur has fluctuated widely over the decades, but seems to be at a high-water marK even though the water itself is at a drought-time low.
In flight the ibis shows no discernible pattern. It may fly singly, bunched strung out in a random formation. Cut-outs against a blue, like Matisse figures.
With marshes and flooded grassland at a low point this year the Malheur ibisa (or is it is ibises? ibisae? ibislands?) were often seen moving beteween feeding grounds separated by miles of dry terrain.
MATISSE? CHECK OUT HIS CUT-OUTS HERE. I RECENTLY GOT TO SEE AN EXHIBIT OF MANY MATISSE CUT-OUTS IN LONDON AND THE IBIS IN THE MALHEURIAN SKY BROUGHT IT ALL BACK.
