SPRING IS IN THE AIR

And at the Avenue G this morning you could see spring animated, swirling in a hungry swarm over the ponds there.SWALO SHAP (1280x960)I know it’s out of focus. Have you ever tried following a Tree Swallow in flight?

SWLO1 (1280x960)These were the first Tree Swallows I’ve seen in Jackson County this calendar year. And this wasn’t just a lost individual. It was an entire flock on its way north.

TRSW SWIRL (1280x960) Along the shore of one pond we scared up a Wilson’s Snipe.

BLUE FACES (1280x960)
A small flock of Western Bluebirds were hunting in the teasel field along the eastern edge of the Medford Airport. I found no Short-eared Owls, but plenty of interesting birds.

A sngle White-tailed Kite hunted that same field.

MOst surprising: this Mockingbird, not a usual species at this location.

The earliest eBird record of a Mockingbird at the airport is dated 2009.
