SPEED BEYOND NEED

The pronghorn is now faster than it needs to be. No predator can out-run it. But we slow-gaited bipeds can still marvel when the herd takes off.PRONG HRD

The pronghorn, Antilocarpa Americana, is the sole surviving member of an ancient family of hoofed animals. Once numbering in the millions across America’s western grasslands, this swiftest land animal in North America now clings to its life in sagebrush steppe. Its numbers have greatly reduced by guns and fences. They do not jump, they must slide under a fence if the lowest strand is high enough off the ground. Their beauty is undeniable.

  1. mmm …. very ‘human’ of it to be faster than it needs to be…… just like having one of those big fast cars I can’t afford. 😉 There is definitely something very elegant about them.
