MYRTLE ON ICE AND COLD DUCK(S)

ASHLAND POND, LATE DECEMBER DURING OUR SHORTEST DAYS
dux on ice (1280x960) In lieu of water at a frozen pond, these Mallards do their dabbling at the edge of ice on Bear Creek.

YRWA EYE-RING Myrtle variety of Yellow-rumped Warbler. Warmest hunting grounds along the creek.

RSH AT PND Red-shouldered Hawk. I didn’t hear a single scream.

RVN FLI Raven passing overhead. Plenty to croak about, apparently.
ASH-PND ICED Ashland Pond iced over, thus even dabblers are along the streams or at Emigrant Lake which has open water.

BLACK CROWNED LEGO9 Shouldn’t this bird be the Black-crowned Goldfinch.

LEGO BRITE When we say Lesser Goldfinch it refers surely to the bird’s size, not its lesser amount of gold. And this is a male in winter! Hardy and heartier than the wimpy American Goldfinch, these birds over-winter here in south Oregon.

RTH WATCHES
CAGO APPROACH Canada Geese on approach for landing, honking the whole way. Nothing subtle here.
