After 4PM today the air turned steely cold, a few bits of ice fell from the air and it was time for most birds to find a warm roost for the night. With that in mind a large flock of Crows were heading south and west over Lithia Park, moving in an arc toward their roost in the foothills somewhere above Ashland and Talent.
Then some park workers began slamming metal objects into the back of a pick-up, imitating gunfire. The Crows went into lift off and rapid swirling. After they finally realized the sounds were not a threat, they reformed their flock and headed off to their roost, their hearts still pumping a little faster than normal. Clearly some of this flick have been shot at or been warned by their Corvid ancestors.
At the same time this little owl was just beginning to try to wake for his nightly hunt.
