BLUE SKY BIRDING

This was a blue sky, crystalline air day in the Cascades. Too nice to be anywhere except outside birding. So the dog and I hit the road and the trails. At Emigrant Lake were some pleasant finds: our first Lewis’s Woodpecker at the lake this season, a Harrier (another seasonal first for that location)…I missed the White-tailed Kite seen by other birders. We found a lone Horned Grebe on the lake and a lone Vesper Sparrow among the many, smaller Savannahs on the baked dirt below the high water line near the cemetery.

We drove up to Howard Prairie, but found no Great gray Owl. Ruffed Grouse was our consolation prize.RUFF GRSE1 (1280x1280)
