In the upper right hand corner of this image are two shorebirds, similar but not alike. The back one is smaller, has more dark on its upper chest and shorter beak–Least. The forward one is a Western. No color on upper chest and longer beak, black legs.
A gallery of these migrants moving south by the thousands. The smaller, browner, shorter-billed birds are Least Sandpipers. The slightly larger longer-billed, somewhat grayer birds are Westerns. The dark-backed birds with single dark collar stripe: Semi-Ps. There were Sanderlings around but not sure I got any pictures of them. Also today I saw a few Whimbrel and Marbled Godwit huddled in the rain. All pictures on Heceta Beach.
